Join our Executive Committee
What is the Executive Committee?
The Executive Committee is elected by the Scarlet Alliance membership at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to carry out the governance decisions and work of our organisation over the coming year. Our Executive Committee is ultimately accountable to the membership and reports to members throughout the year and formally at the AGM on key areas of work.
The Scarlet Alliance Executive Committee is made up of six core members:
- Vice President
- 2 General Members
Scarlet Alliance also provides opportunities for sex workers who are new to governance, or who have skills and knowledge but lower capacity, to participate in the Executive Committee through observer roles. We call these roles ‘Doubles’, and one Double corresponds to each of the core Executive Committee roles. This is a unique structure designed to improve sex workers’ capacity to participate in Scarlet Alliance governance.
How can I get involved?
Each year at our annual general meeting (AGM), we hold elections for the available Executive Committee and Doubles positions. The Executive Committee are elected to 2-year terms that are staggered to allow for continuity in the composition of our governance team, so each year we elect for 3 of those positions. Doubles are elected for 1-year terms, all of which are vacated every year.
If you’re interested to get involved with the Scarlet Alliance Executive Committee:
- Look out for the annual ‘call for nominations issued by the Scarlet Alliance Secretary. This is posted on our website and in peer-only spaces and may be accompanied by an information session conducted by our current Executive Committee.
- Check out the position descriptions for each role. You can nominate for one or multiple positions.
- Fill out the nomination form here. Your nomination form will need to be endorsed by two current members of Scarlet Alliance. If you don’t know two current members you can approach, please contact us to discuss.
- The day before the AGM, we open voting for the annual election. Your name and biography will be provided on the ballot and sent digitally to all current members of Scarlet Alliance. Successful candidates are announced at the end of the AGM. Where we don’t fill all of the positions, we may re-open nominations, or conduct a by-election at a later date.
If you have further questions about getting involved with Scarlet Alliance, you can email our President at email@example.com
