Scarlet Alliance “Response to ACT Parliamentary Inquiry into Sex Work” Feb 2012

Feb 22, 2012 | Media release, News

Scarlet Alliance welcomes the recommendations from the Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety Inquiry into the Prostitution Act 1992.

The recommendations provide a strong basis for building on the current successful legislation while tweaking important aspects.

Scarlet Alliance CEO, Janelle Fawkes, says: "We support government acting quickly on these recommendations. It will be important during the drafting of legislation that government recognize the value of continued consultation with sex workers."

"The report rightly recognises the commitment by sex workers and the sex industry to good occupational health and safety standards." Said Janelle Fawkes. "Should the government continue to work in partnership with sex workers when developing legislation, these recommendations will support strong improvements to the current laws."

Scarlet Alliance, Australian Sex Workers Association, is the peak national representative body for sex workers in Australia.
