Our submission to the NSW Legislative Assembly Committee on Community Services Inquiry into the Equality Legislation Amendment (LGBTIQA+) Bill 2023 (the Equality Bill) supports this legislation as a chance to complete NSW’s unfinished decriminalisation of sex work.

We support the Bill introducing comprehensive anti-discrimination and anti-vilification protections that cover both current and former sex workers, as well as strippers, BDSM providers, porn performers and erotic massage providers. We also support repealing the nine remaining sex work offences in the Summary Offences Act 1988, and recommend that NSW Police receive training on sex work stigma and discrimination.
