Our People

Scarlet Alliance is governed, led and staffed by current and former sex workers. Our Committee, staff and advisory groups bring different roles, skills and experiences to our work, while sharing a commitment to advancing the rights, health and safety of sex workers across unceded Australia. Our peer-led structure ensures sex workers are not simply consulted about the issues that affect us. We are the people making decisions, delivering programs, shaping advocacy and building the collective power of our movement.

The Committee.

The Scarlet Alliance Committee is made up of current and former sex workers elected by our membership. As the governing body of Scarlet Alliance, the Committee provides strategic direction, governance and oversight, and is accountable to our members. The Committee includes a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and general members. Sex workers can also participate through ‘double’ roles, which provide opportunities to build governance experience and contribute their skills and knowledge alongside elected Committee members.

Staff.

Our staff turn Scarlet Alliance’s priorities into action, delivering our national programs, projects, advocacy, communications and organisational work. Like our Committee, our staff are current or former sex workers. They bring lived experience alongside professional knowledge and skills across health promotion, policy, advocacy, peer education, communications, community development and organisational leadership. Our team changes as projects and funding evolve, with staff working across national programs that are ongoing, like Red Book Online, and on temporary funded projects, like the production of Whoretonomy.

Advisory groups.

Our advisory groups create dedicated spaces for sex workers from particular communities to connect, organise and contribute their expertise to Scarlet Alliance’s work. Each group is made up of sex workers with lived experience of the communities it represents. Advisory groups inform our policy, advocacy, resources and programs, and strengthen the representation of communities that experience intersecting forms of stigma, discrimination and marginalisation.

Support our advisory groups. Help sex worker communities organise, connect and build collective power.

Donations to our advisory groups support community-led organising, peer connection, advocacy and activities led by sex workers from the communities each group represents. You can choose to donate directly to AMSWAG, ATSISWAG or DSWAG, helping each group remain responsive to the needs and priorities of their communities.
